This is a stop-motion assignment of my animation class. I made the puppets with fabric and sewed it by hands. Its facial expressions were achieved by replacement. I finished all the shooting stuff within an hour, so I cannot make every thing perfect. But in general, I enjoyed the process very much.

Sand Animation Assignment

Sand  Animation Assignment

Date of Completion: Oct/2012;
Duration: 00'07'';

I do not know how to describe my feelings about the sand animation. It has many possibilities which always surprise me, while it is rather hard to control that also surprises me. However, I have to confess that this assignment makes me fall in love with playing with the contrast of light and shadow. The relationship between light and shadow is really attractive to me.

Charcoal Animation Assignment

Charcoal Animation Assignment
Date of Completion: Oct/2012;
Duration: 00'04'';

This assignment is about to animate a character moving through the space by using charcoals and one piece of paper. The first frame is the only one that looks clear enough. When I worked on the second frame, I had to erase a part of the previous frame and this caused the mess... But, all in all, I love this charcoal painting animation because it is really fun to play with such loose shape and lines and the contrast between light and shadow. This is a wonderful experience.

FALL

 FALL
Date of Completion: Nov. 2009;
Duration: 7' 36'';
FALL is a stop-motion animation that tells a story about a girl and a piece of cloud. The girl’s archetype is me, while the cloud is an abstract image of someone who is always there for me. At the beginning, they were just two characters created for my animation class assignments. While exploring to enliven animation characters, I was planning a whole story about them. At the end of that semester, these two characters matured, and their story clue also came clear. Thus, the production of FALL began. Every single piece of stage property was made by me. Sometime making a sofa in proper size would take me a whole night. For every scene, I would shoot hundreds of times and bend my head into those pictures trying to find out the best one. In front of the computer, I stared at the screen for 16 hours a day repeatedly modifying and polishing every single detail. The five-month hard working on this seven-minute animation was eventually rewarded with the Silver Prize in the First Beijing Student Cartoon and Animation Design Competition.
